Meet Janet Caryk
M.Ed., R.Psych.
If you have OCD, intrusive thoughts, or crippling anxiety and are looking for a psychologist who truly understands exposure‑based treatment, you're in the right place. With over 40 years of clinical experience in Edmonton, I specialize in Obsessive‑Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and body‑focused repetitive behaviors.
I help kids, adults, and families break free from patterns of avoidance, compulsions, and fear using the evidence‑based therapy models of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Cognitive‑Behavioural Therapy (CBT). ERP is a practical, structured approach that teaches you to face intrusive unwanted thoughts and feared situations step‑by‑step, so you can reclaim your life from OCD and anxiety.
As co‑founder of Edmonton's Centre for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CFCBT), I've developed intensive group programs like "Fright Night" and "OCD Bootcamp", plus "No More Fear" psycho‑educational seminars that empower clients and families. These deliver focused, short‑term, high‑impact treatment—not open‑ended, vaguely "supportive" therapy.
Beyond private practice, I am an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta, where I train psychiatry residents and psychology interns in CBT and exposure‑based treatments. I'm always happy to give presentations about OCD and anxiety disorders to the medical community.
Whether you're dealing with OCD (harm‑related fears like hurting yourself/others, contamination theme of germs or feeling unclean, 'just right'/perfectionism like order, completion and symmetry, taboo thoughts like intrusive unwanted sexual/violent ideas), phobias, panic attacks, or social anxiety, my collaborative style creates a safe space to confront fears through targeted exposure homework.

About NO More Fear
NO More Fear (NMF) is a psychoeducational and exposure-based therapy program designed to help individuals ages 10 years and up who are living with OCD and anxiety disorders. The program is led by Janet Caryk, Registered Psychologist and co-founder of the CFCBT, with over 35 years of experience. NMF is designed to help individuals understand the principles of successful exposure in order to overcome fear-based behavior. The exposure program incorporates key concepts from Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals change their relationship with their anxious thoughts and emotions.
The program can be delivered in a variety of settings to meet the needs of individuals seeking help for OCD and anxiety disorders. The program can be held in person in large group settings, smaller group settings, and individual sessions, providing participants with the opportunity to engage with others who share similar experiences and receive personalized support from a Registered Psychologist. In addition, the program can be delivered through virtual reality sessions, providing individuals with a safe and controlled environment in which to practice exposure therapy and confront the things they are afraid of.
The flexibility of the NO More Fear program allows individuals to choose the setting that is best suited to their needs, making it an effective option that is tailor-made for the client's anxiety profile.
Overall, the NMF program is a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to treating OCD and anxiety disorders. By incorporating exposure therapy and key principles from CBT and ACT, individuals are empowered to face their fears and develop effective coping strategies. With the support of a Registered Psychologist, participants can feel confident in their ability to overcome their anxiety and live a more fulfilling life.
