Attending the IOCDF Conference in Chicago: Inspiring Learning and Community

This July, I had the privilege of attending the 30th Annual International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) Conference in Chicago—a vibrant and transformative event that brought together clinicians, people with lived experience, and families from around the world. As a registered psychologist specializing in the treatment of OCD with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), it was both enriching and energizing to connect with so many passionate individuals and leaders in the field.

What sets the IOCDF Conference apart is its inclusive, community-oriented focus. The event isn’t only for professionals—it’s thoughtfully designed for anyone impacted by OCD, including those with lived experience and their families. The programming goes far beyond the expected; tracks and activities are specially tailored for elementary, middle, and high schoolers, ensuring that young people and their caregivers receive support and evidence-based resources that meet their unique needs.

This year’s conference was especially exciting because of the emphasis on family-based ERP interventions. Leading world experts in OCD and related disorders taught workshops and seminars, generously sharing the latest research, treatment innovations, and hands-on strategies for supporting children, teens, and families. As someone deeply committed to empowering families and promoting accessible care for youth, I was thrilled to see the breadth and depth of offerings dedicated to family involvement and collaboration.

Whether you are a parent of a child with OCD, a young person navigating recovery, or a clinician seeking to deepen your practice, the IOCDF Conference is an exceptional experience that fosters connection, learning, and hope. I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with my clients and my community in Alberta in the months ahead.
