Shining a Light on OCD Awareness Week 2025

OCD Awareness Week is an annual, global event dedicated to dispelling myths about obsessive compulsive disorder, breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness, and providing accurate education about OCD and how to support those affected. In 2025, OCD Awareness Week will be observed from October 12–18.

Every year, individuals, families, clinicians, and advocates come together to share facts, personal stories, and advocacy efforts, with the goal of increasing understanding and compassion for the 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children affected by OCD. Events range from workshops, support groups, webinars, and panel discussions to public campaigns—such as lighting up local landmarks in teal, which is the official color for OCD awareness.

OCD Awareness Week is a time to challenge common misconceptions (like equating OCD only with neatness or orderliness), highlight diverse experiences, and promote evidence-based treatment such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. Resources, screening tools, and advocacy guides are made widely accessible, and there are opportunities for everyone to take action—whether it’s sharing facts, participating in events, donating to OCD organizations, or contacting local officials about mental health policy.

If you are looking to get involved, consider joining a local event, lighting up your community in teal, or using the week to start an honest conversation about what OCD really is. Learn more and access resources through organizations like the International OCD Foundation.
